The course consist of two parts: medical Informatics and statistics.

Medical informatics part - overview

  • Teleconsultation, DICOM
  • Medical databases / Data security
  • E-learning
  • Virtual patients & clinical pathways
  • Test - Medical informatics

Statisticss part - overview

  • Descriptive statistics with Excel –Introduction to Excel, Descriptive statistics
  • Descriptive statistics with Excel–Frequency&Probability Distributions
  • Statistics – Introduction to SAS Enterprise Guide, Descriptive Statistics in SAS, Hypothesis Testing,Normal Distribution
  • Statistics – t-Student test
  • Statistics ANOVA, Survival analysis
  • Statistics – Chi-sqaure analysis in contingency table, Correlation and Linear Regression
  • Statistics – Logistic regression
  • Exam – Statistics, Excel

 

Medical Informatics, including statistics

Diuring this course students:

  • learn how to find information on a specific topic using the on-line medical databases,
  • extend your medical knowledge by virtual patient encounters.
  • browse references to the human genome base - potential genetic changes as the reason for the disease; browse human genetic database (OMIM) and other resources collected in the National Center of Biotechnology Information portal,
  • perform medical data analysis (using Microsoft Office Excel),
  • learn about telemedical topics (teledentistry, medical teleconsulting, CAD/CAM systems in dentistry, E-learning in medicine)
  • analyze medical images and signals
  • make a presentation (e-health wiki) that summarizes your work during this course,
  • get understanding on statistical topics and acquire practical skills in using SAS program

 

Computer Modeling (Proteomics, Genomics / Biochemistry)

Genomics:

- overview of NCBI resources such as: OMIM, SNP, GEO
- Analysis of protein and nucleotide sequence (based on BLAST program)
- An assessment of microarray data (using statistical methods such as t-test, ANOVA and cluster analysis)
